How to Recycle Right
40% of the items in the recycling bins cannot be recycled due to contamination by food and drink remnants, tissues, reusables and trash, putting everyone's good effort to waste.
Given our current rate of waste disposal, Semakau Landfill is expected to be full by 2035. The earlier we respect our recycling bins and not treat them as general trash bins, the more likely we can collectively improve our recycling rates and reduce the waste incinerated and sent to Semakau Landfill.

First, set up a recycling corner in your home. Start by placing a recycling receptacle (bin, container or bag) next to your trash bin so that you can separate your recyclables from general waste.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER RECYCLABLES ARE COLLECTED FROM HOUSING ESTATES?
Recyclables are collected by a dedicated recycling truck and sent to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The recyclables are sorted into different waste streams, baled and sent to local and overseas recycling plants to form new products.
